Praying for a Breakthrough?

I had just finished reading a book about the Psalms before Mark and I set out on our morning walk. The author had described a game he plays with his wife when they hike. One of them would point out something in nature, for example, moss. Then the other would think of what that piece of creation shows about an attribute of God, for example, God’s gentleness.

As we were returning home from our hike, Mark stopped me and quietly pointed to our backyard. Perched on the edge of our little pool was a young grey heron – at least I think that is what it is according to my google research. 😊 It looked at us. We stood motionless. It stood motionless. Not wanting to frighten this unusual visitor, we made a wide circle around our house and came through the front door so we could watch it out our back windows. After a long while, it moved closer to the water. With backward-bending knees and head cocked to one side, his slow, graceful movements were almost imperceptible. Way slower than cartoon sloths. I wanted it to do something exciting like dive into the pool

What attribute of God was being presented before my eyes? God’s Patience. I want Him to act quickly and do something exciting! I pray for big breakthroughs. And sometimes, I have gotten them. But Jesus says, “My Father is always at His work to this very day, and I, too, am working.” (John 5:17) “The Lord is not slow about His promises as some understand slowness, but is patient toward you . . .” (2 Peter 3:9) God is Patient toward me. May I be patient toward Him and recognize that He is always working, even when it may be imperceptible. We named our new feathered friend, Patience. It has been several days now and Patience is still hanging out at our house, sometimes roosting on the very top of our roof.
